Oakland Raiders have traded 3.17, 5.17 & 7.17 to San Francisco for 3.12 & 6.9
48 Penn State C/G Stefen Wisniewski — Technically sound lineman with smarts and lineage.
76 Abilene Christian WR Edmond Gates — Quenches Al Davis’ notorious thirst for speed.
113 East Carolina OT Willie Smith — Underrated blocker generating surprisingly little buzz.
174 West Virginia CB Brandon Hogan — Injury and character concerns pushed him down.
181 Northwest Missouri State CB Ryan Jones — Dominant small-schooler with ball skills.
241 Maryland TE Will Yeatman — Raiders apparently plan to convert him to offensive tackle.
The Nnamdi Asomugha-less Raiders appeared to panic after going five rounds without a cornerback, and picked two DBs who may not be selected on “real” draft day. Hogan almost certainly won’t. Yeatman is another player with character concerns. Oakland was already dealing with a limited hand after the Richard Seymour trade cost them their 2011 first-round pick, so it’s hard to blame them for an unimpressive draft. For what it’s worth, Wisniewski does project as a day-one starter at center. Gates and Smith both have potential to start down the road.
